Swan Lake is a much-loved work that lies at the heart of classical ballet productions. The story goes that during a hunt, Prince Siegfried came across a lake and encountered a white swan that magically transforms into a beautiful maiden, Princess Odette. And as always, they fell in love. But Odette was under the curse of a powerful sorcerer, Von Rothbart, and can only turn to human form on the lake by night. Von Rothbart magically disguised his daughter Odile to look like Odette and trick Prince Siegfried to marry her instead. They danced at a royal ball.
The title is written in calligraphy Spencerian hand with the exquisite sweeping lines.
Princess Odette as the beautiful and graceful white swan and Odile as the black swan.
Odette found out about this and went back to the lake, distraught. After realizing Von Rothbart deceit, Siegfried made a passionate apology to Odette. In the final act, Von Rothbart confronted them and Prince Siegfried sacrificed his life to be with Odette. That true love destroyed Von Rothbart and lifted his enchantments. The swan maidens on the lake watched as Siegfried and Odette ascend into Heaven together.
